Japanese sales will indicate if consumers flock to 3-D games. It is hoped that the company will manage to repeat the success of the predecessor DS, which has sold 144 million units across the world.

Bic Camera Co. is an operator of electronics store that is based in Tokyo. It has sold 3DS stock within a day when the device was available for pre-order.

With the 3DS users are able to see 3-D images without wearing special glasses. The device will hit the U.S. market on March 27. It will have a price tag of $250. The 3DS will also be  available in the European market on March 25.

Last month the company decided to reiterate its September plan, i.e. ship 4 million 3DS units in the first month so as to prevent shortages.

The 3DS hit the Japanese market with eight titles, such as “Winning Eleven 3D Soccer” of Konami Corp., “Street Fighter IV 3D Edition,” of Capcom Co. and Nintendo’s “nintendogs + cats.” Customers of U.S. will get the 3DS with 18 titles.

Nintendo will be able to gain success in case it can maintain the friendly disposition of third-party developers and capture core gamer audience. In fact, it is believed that the 3DS will manage to appeal to serious gamers and even those who prefer playing on the iPhone.
